I am, at my core, someone who is utterly and completely in love with food. Not just eating it — though I am very good at that — but the whole beautiful process of it. The planning, the shopping, the mise en place, the moment a kitchen starts to smell like something magical is happening.

I have read what my family generously estimates to be a thousand cookbooks. They are less generous about calling it a hobby. The word they use is addiction, and at this point I have stopped arguing with them.

But here is what truly lights me up: a great meal at a restaurant. Not stuffy or pretentious — the food we all crave. And the obsession with cracking those recipes and making them happen at home.
